In the XIV century to the feuds of Buseto Palizzolo were substructed big parts of country to give it to the paesants of Monte San Giuliano (the today Erice), to take the maximum agricultural advantages. In this way the so called “Parecchiate di Busiti” were born, the territorial and social core on which, about two hundred years later, rose the “Bagli” (name of arabic origin), agricultural and pastoral structures self sufficient.
Today the Bagli which are in all our territory, represent splendid examples of agroindustrial archaeology, thanks to which the paesants’ culture can increase and maintain itself. They are rural buildings a pianta quadrangolare, composed by some parts to deposit and transform the agricoltural products (wine, oil, corn), and by the inside space (patio) on which often towers over the padronal building.
It is right here, in Piana di Battaglia, that Baglio Fontana was built, in hte center of the old territory, that during the XII century took its name from Casale Busith, that was the original unit. The conversion into Rural Tourism of the Baglio (built between the end of 1700 and the beginning of the following century by Giuseppe Fontana) gave again life to the old establishment where till the last post-war period were produced wine, oil and corn.
The agricultural activity was never interrupted and during the last years, it devoloped through the commercialization of the quality products, such as oil, honey, wine, vegetables and fruit, taken by precious vineyards, that find in the micro-climate of the agro-ericino and Busetane hills in an ideal enviorment.
